Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING in-depth knowledge of the economic and business dynamics of social work organizations, their management and evaluation ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING socio-economic planning capacity; decision-making ability in complex organizational situations. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The course aims to explore some specific topics of macroeconomic analysis and economic policy, with particular ref-erence to institutions and social issues. Particular attention will be given to macroeconomics, production, investment and income, public sector, labor, productivity, employment and wages, welfare and inequality, economic policy, cost-benefit analysis for the evaluation of social investments , expansionary income policies, policies for full employment and monetary policies. At the end of the course the student should be able to assess the economic relevance and social implications of an investment project in one of the sectors in which a specialist Social Worker operates.
Program
The course focuses on macroeconomic issues, with particular regard to the debate between public intervention and market economy. Typical problems of modern economies, such as unemployment, and economic and social inequalities will be addressed. Economic policies and public investment in the social field will be explored, in this case also with a cost-benefit analysis. Finally, the growing role of the social economy as an alternative or compendium to the capitalist economy will be presented and the importance of human and social capital to promote long-term development will be discussed.

Written exam in the form of quiz, optional oral examination. It is possible to agree with the teacher of an in-depth topic discussion, and in this way obtain bonuses on the grade of the written and of the oral exam.
