Learning objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING in-depth knowledge of the economic and business dynamics of social work organizations, their management and evaluation ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING socio-economic planning capacity; decision-making ability in complex organizational situations. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES The course aims to explore some specific topics of macroeconomic analysis and economic policy, with particular ref-erence to institutions and social issues. Particular attention will be given to macroeconomics, production, investment and income, public sector, labor, productivity, employment and wages, welfare and inequality, economic policy, cost-benefit analysis for the evaluation of social investments , expansionary income policies, policies for full employment and monetary policies. At the end of the course the student should be able to assess the economic relevance and social implications of an investment project in one of the sectors in which a specialist Social Worker operates.
Prerequisites and basic notions
The student must have a good knowledge of mathematics and statistics (high school level).

Didactic methods
The course comprises 36 hours of frontal lessons. The teacher uses slides and other material that will be made available to students on Moodle. The student is required to carry out the exercises proposed in class and read the material before each lesson to take part actively in the discussion in class.
Learning assessment procedures
The final exam comprises a written test including 3 open-ended questions to be answered in 60 minutes. For attending students there is the possibility of giving (alone or in small groups) a presentation in class. The presentation entitles a maximum of three extra points.
Evaluation criteria
The exam verifies that the objectives of the course (knowledge, skills, and competencies) have been achieved.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
Grade of the written test plus, for attending students, extra points for their presentations in class.
Note: the extra points will be added to the written test grade only the first time the student delivers the exam.
