M-PED/01 - PEDAGOGY, THEORIES OF EDUCATION AND SOCIAL EDUCATION

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the conceptual and methodological basis needed to analyse contextual characteristics, and training and development activities, in a comparative perspective, and to evaluate the relevance, adaptability or transferability of principles, methods and modes of intervention between contexts (local, national and international).

By the end of the course students will be able to:
- understand the principles of comparison and their application to the analysis of contexts, and of training and development interventions;
- apply knowledge and understanding derived from comparative analysis to the development of training interventions (at local, national and international levels).

Program

The program is organised in 3 modules; the first module covers preparatory topics for the next module; the third module supports the preparation of an essay for the final examination.

TEACHING APPROACH

Teaching approach with Attending students consists of:
- frontal lessons devoted to the transmission of basic notions
- teacher-student interaction, devoted to the sharing and re-elaboration of previous knowledge, as well as the knowledge gained during the frontal lessons and the individual study,
- work in small groups to be performed in the classroom, but with individual preparation / study by the students, according to the instructions given by the teacher.

Attending students are required to:
- ensure continuity of classroom attendance,
- be present for the whole lesson (except under unforeseen circumstances).

The didactic approach with Non-attending students consists of:
- support for individual study and preparation for final examinations in meetings with the teacher during office hours.

Non-attending students are, however, required to notify the teacher of their presence at the beginning of the course.

All students (Attending and Non-attending) are required to enroll in the e-learning platform of teaching in order to:
- have access to the teaching material that will be available during the course,
- receive any updates and additional information about the course through your institutional email (@ studenti.univr.it),
- access to the forum, where, in relation to teaching, the following can be posted: 1) general announcements and news by the teacher, and 2) requests for clarification and / or general information from the students.

PLEASE NOTE:
At the beginning of the course:
- Students will be told which chapters from the Reference books (see below) shall be considered;
- Additional bibliographical references will be provided, and a hard copy of this additional material will be available at the Library of Education Science of the Department of Human Sciences.
During the course:
- Students will be asked to identify additional study material through dedicated searches in academic journals.

Examination Methods

The assessment of learning outcomes involves:
- the production of an essay
- an oral presentation

ESSAY

The purpose of this essay is for students to start developing a research topic that may be expanded into a presentation for a conference or conference or a thesis. The type and structure of the essay will be illustrated in detail in the classroom (module 3) and in specific guidelines that will be made available through the e-learning platform.

For the production of the essay, students should integrate the study of the reference texts and the recommended reading with the active search of articles or book chapters, also in foreign language, on the subject being studied.

The paper must be submitted electronically, ollowing the instructions that will be communicated by the teacher at the beginning of the course, at least 2 weeks in advance of the date of appeal in which the student intends to perform the oral presentation.

ORAL PRESENTATION

Using PowerPoint, students will have to present the essentials of their essay in a 15 minute presentation to be held on the date of the final examination.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSESSMENT

The essay is aimed at verifying:
- the ability to use and link the acquired knowledge;
- the ability to structure a written text of a comparative nature;
- the ability to analyse and argument;
- the property of language;
- the ability to locate, use, and appropriately cite the sources of information.

The oral presentation is intended to verify the ability to communicate to third parties, in a synthetic, clear and effective manner, the choice and relevance of the subject covered in the paper as well as the knowledge acquired through its production.

In relation to the situation deriving from the Coronavirus emergency, the above examination modalities are modified for the 2020 summer session, in accordance with the indications of the university, as specified below:

1. The written document must be delivered at least 8 days before the chosen date of appeal to take the oral exam.

2. The oral presentation will take place via ZOOM instead of in presence. Detailed information on participation in the exam via ZOOM will be made available only to students enrolled to the oral exam.
