Learning objectives
The teaching aims to familiarize students to science and logics philosoPhy, in order to enable them to critically analyse their clinical practice. It provides a critical analysis of the main theories and concepts of nursing and midwifery, of the main diagnostic classification systems currently used and of the nursing process, in order to guide nursing and midwifery care toward nursing/midwifery sensitive outcomes, with attention to the proper planning and documentation tools and to innovative reporting formats. ETHICS, PRACTICE AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE: Learning outcomes: to acquire increased awareness of complexity of care through the analysis of philosopical miths of care (Care, Prometeus, Babeles). To follow the historical development of care in order to identify some of the current challenges of care. To familiarize with some categories of science and logics phIlosophy, to critically analyse through this lens students' clinical practice. To recognise characteristics of practical ethics versus applied ethics. THEORIES AND PHILOSOPHIES OF OBSTETRICS SCIENCE: learning outcomes: to deepen the knowledge of midwifery care through the analysis of scientific evidence and to analyse the impact of evidence in regard to changes of clinical practice and improvement of health promotion services, with focus on sexual and reproductive services and health. THEORIES AND PHILOSOPHIES OF NURSING SCIENCE: learning outcomes: To understand the relation between science and methods in nursing and its application in clinical practice, teaching, research and health management. To describe the concept of "nursing outcome" following old and new definitions and available classifications. To describe emerging methodogical themes in outcome related research and practice. To analyse planning tools and documentation in nursing care.
