Learning objectives
The course offers an introduction to the main historical, artistic and literary fea-tures of 20th century German literature, focusing on the works of the most repre-sentative authors of this period. At the end students will have to show a deep knowledge of the topics dealt with during the course, regarding both the his-torical-literary period and the works. Fur-thermore they will have to be able to ana-lyse the texts and clearly show the abilities developed during the course through a suitable competence in German.
Prerequisites and basic notions
To attend the course, the following prerequisites are required:
- a fair knowledge of the German language
- mastering the main foundations of textual analysis
- basic knowledge of the history of 19th century European culture

Students are also required to study, using a GERMAN LITERATURE TEXTBOOK of their choice, the chapters related to the historical-literary period covered during the course. The chosen textbook must be indicated at the beginning of the oral exam.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
The course, in Italian, is structured in a single module (frontal teaching). The works in the program will be analyzed in their most significant parts starting from the German original. Teaching support methods: The supplementary and support teaching materials will be uploaded to the teaching Moodle platform. Students are however invited to contact the teacher via email or during office hours. Students who find themselves in the position of having to make up for missed lessons must contact the teacher
Learning assessment procedures
The final exam will be oral and held in Italian.
Evaluation criteria
The oral exam will cover the whole programme and it will consist in a conversation aimed at testing:
- the depth and width of the acquired knowledge;
- the ability to understand and analyse literary texts;
- the ability to discuss and connect different topics in a historic, cultural and literary perspective.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final evaluation is expressed in 30ths.
