Learning outcomes
Part 1) Prof. Chiara Concina (18h; 6CFU)
The course has in aim to give an overview on the origins of the medieval Old French Tristan poems.
A series of selected passages from the 'Tristan' of Béroul and Thomas, will be read, translated, and analyzed during the class.
Part 2) Prof. Samuela Simion (18h; 6 CFU)
The course intends to offer an introduction to the reading of one of the most important medieval texts, the "Devisement dou monde / Milione" by Marco Polo and Rustichello of Pisa. The precise genre of this celebrated travel narrative is ambiguous. Infact, the "Devisement dou monde" can be read as an encyclopaedia, a "pratica di mercatura", a travel account with some stylistic fatures taken from Old Frenc 'romans'.
