Learning outcomes

The course purpose is to introduce a series of case studies relating to building, from the protohistoric period to the medieval age. The aim is to provide a range, as exhaustive as possible, of construction types and techniques found in an archaeological context. Particular attention will be given to the methodological approach of investigation and study for the different contexts of protohistoric and historical buildings. The students will be presented with techniques and methodologies of investigation.
Part of the course will be dedicated to the description of the most recent survey techniques applied to constructions in archaeological contexts.

Program

The theme of building archeology, from protohistoric to modern times, will be treated during the lessons through the presentation of case studies, involving researchers and professionals specialized on the different topics.
The lessons will follow two main threads in archeology of architecture: the analysis and knowledge of construction materials and techniques used in different eras; the study of buildings through archaeological survey techniques and reconstruction of the evidence.

Examination Methods

Students will be asked to actively participate in the seminar lessons. For the final exam students will have to develop a theme chosen from those presented.
During the course, research ideas and bibliographical information relating to the various topics will be provided.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
