Learning objectives
Roman History The course is aimed at improving the students skill in deeming the quality and the reliability of documents of Roman history by means of comparisons between different authors or between authors and other kinds of sources. Students will improve their communication skill by expressing their opinions or even their doubts concerning problems arising from the course, and receiving answers and directions on how to shape their discourses. Their learning skill will be improved by means of an interaction of studies in historical sources and iconographies. At the end of the course students should demonstrate that they understand the most important topics dealt with in the classes, that they are able to analyse critically both the sources and the iconographies related to the topics and to present their talk in a logical sequence, clearly and on the basis of documents.
Prerequisites and basic notions
To successfully attend the course of Roman History (m), it is advisable to have already passed a previous exam of Roman History of at least 6 CFU. Anyone approaching Roman history for the first time is invited to contact the professor at the beginning of the lessons.
Program
This single-subject course will focus on the so-called "Crisis of the Third Century", which will be explored mainly through the reading of the biographies of Gallienus, Caludius Gothicus and Aurelian in the Historia Augusta.

Didactic methods
The lessons will be conducted in presence of the professor. Students are invited to participate as much as possible.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam will be held orally.
Evaluation criteria
Students will be asked to place individuals and events in their historical and geographical contexts, making reference to the primary and secondary sources examined during the course.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade will be given by using a 30-point scale, 18 being the minimum grade to pass the course.
