Program

The course focuses on the study of the varieties of Spanish from a diatopic, social and dialectal point of view in order to then be able to deal with the varieties and styles of the language in the tourism and commerce sectors with an adequate basis. The contents and sessions will generally follow this thematic line:
- Spanish in the world: general data.
- Characterization of the different varieties of Spanish in the world.
- Spanish in Spain: history, composition, main varieties.
- American Spanish: history, dialect characterizations, diversity and linguistic, socio-political and demographic panorama.
- The concept of norm (normative centers, institutions) with respect to the language in use.
- Spanish in the field of tourism: cases and practical examples.
- Spanish in the business sector: cases and practical examples.
During the course, practical activities will be carried out to deepen the study of the varieties using tools such as linguistic atlases, linguistic corpora and audiovisual material to train in identifying the characteristic features of Spanish in different parts of the world or applied for different purposes.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam consists of a written test in Spanish, lasting 90 minutes, with open questions and exercises/analysis of texts. Some questions will require metalinguistic reflection and the ability to identify linguistic phenomena, as well as to propose examples of the same. Exam topics: theoretical and practical issues covered during the lessons; teaching materials used during lessons and made available in the teaching Moodle; bibliography indicated via Leganto; The exam program indicated and the bibliography are valid for both attending and non-attending students. However, for students who regularly participate in the lessons, a partial ongoing evaluation is foreseen followed by a written test to be carried out during the exam sessions. All students, and in particular non-attending students, are invited to submit their doubts to the teacher during office hours. All the information published also applies to Erasmus students, who are still invited to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course for clarification.
