Learning objectives
- Learn indications, diagnostic/therapeutic possibilities, and limits of digestive endoscopy
- Understand the importance of the prescribed appropriateness of endoscopic investigations
- Recognize a normal endoscopic appearance as well as the endoscopic presentation of common digestive diseases
Prerequisites and basic notions
- Having attended the Gastroenterology course
- Knowledge of epidemiology, signs and symptoms, and diagnostic criteria of the main diseases of the digestive tract
Program
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: execution technique, indications, normal and pathological endoscopic findings.
- Colonoscopy: execution technique, indications, normal and pathological endoscopic findings.
- Endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP: main indications, possible complications, and limitations.

Active attendance in the digestive endoscopy rooms with direct interaction with the doctors performing the endoscopic examinations
Learning assessment procedures
Oral interview at the end of the course. There are no intermediate tests
Evaluation criteria
The skills acquired by the student will be evaluated with particular attention to the mastery of the appropriateness of the indications of endoscopic examinations, the main anatomical landmarks, the interpretation of the endoscopic report, the recognition of normal and pathological endoscopic aspects.
