Knowledge and understanding - Module 2: Laboratorio di mediazione culturale nei servizi educativi

1.To know the methods of cultural mediation in educational services and to understand the circularity between theory-method-practice.
2.To know the basic aspects of ""making community"" that characterize multicultural educational experiences. Applying knowledge and understanding 1. To know how to use the tools developed by the social research to describe and to understand the processes of the globalization. 2. To understand the sense and the meaning of the educational action in contexts complex and heterogeneous. 3. To solicit and encourage the organization of the educational spaces, operating in contexts that concern globalization processes (eg. Applying knowledge and understanding - Module1: Educational services and socio-cultural issues
1. To be able to situate one's pedagogical knowledge in order to interact constructively and creatively with educational models from other realities brought about by migration.
2. To know how to use the theories and methods of cultural mediation to build educational contexts that implement a pedagogy of encounter.
3. To know how to read the dangers of racialisation within educational discourses/plans and to be able to reformulate their actions.


Applying knowledge and understanting - Module 2: Workshop on Cultural Mediation in Educational contexts

1.To practice applying the theories of pedagogy of encounter and methods of cultural mediation in the educational services with families.
2.To learn to read the different requests for mediation made by educational services.

No prerequisites.

Program

The course aims to present globalisation with its connections between local, national and global scales.
The first part of the course (approximately half) illustrates from a socio-historical perspective the transformations of social institutions in modern societies between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in particular:
- The transition from societal modernity to the phase of globalisation: from nation-states to world conflicts, advanced capitalism and consumer society.
- The process of globalisation as a multidimensional phenomenon with social, political and economic dimensions.
- The ecological and social challenges posed by globalisation.
The second part of the course (approximately half) will focus on some social phenomena that are vectors of globalisation:
- The mass media;
- Mobilities in space (migration and tourism);
- The processes of patrimonialisation of historical and cultural heritages;
- Religious pluralism;
- Conflicts.

Didactic methods

Lectures will be mainly frontal in nature, however, classroom discussion will be encouraged using various multimedia tools, such as:
- Slides projected in the classroom;
- Use of multimedia materials on the web or in repositories (institutional websites and social media);
- Use of a discussion space dedicated to the exam on the University's institutional website (moodle).

Learning assessment procedures

Method of assessing competences for attending and nonattending students: final written examination consisting of a part of multiple choice questions and a part of written production of a text, for a total of 60 minutes.

Evaluation criteria

To successfully achieve the test, students must know and understand:
- the fundamentals of sociological reasoning and method, with specific reference to the content and themes of the processes of economic and cultural globalisation.
- the connections between global and local scales and the phenomena inherent to them;
- the main transformations that have occurred in complex societies in the light of globalisation processes, both on a diachronic and analytical level.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The examination is composed as follows:
Part 1: 15 multiple choice questions (right answer +1 mark) on the content of the entire course. Maximum score 15 points.
Part two: production of a written text in response to an open question on the course content. The answer will be scored a maximum of 15 points, divided as follows: a) 3 points for accuracy of the topics dealt with; b) 5 points for clarity and articulation of the exposition; c) 3 points for the ability to critically summarise the topics; d) 3 points for vocabulary ownership; e) 1 point for readability.
The final result will be the sum of the marks obtained from the first and second parts expressed in thirtieths.
