Learning objectives

To provide an updated overview of the potential applications of peptides of natural and artificial origin in agriculture and biomedicine.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Basic knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology.

Program

This mini-course describes the function of signal peptides in cell-to-cell and long-distance communication and the main physiological processes in which they play a regulatory role. Signal peptides will be distinguished according to their structure, type of synthesis, and post-translational processing. Biochemical and genetic methods used for the identification and study of peptides will be described. Examples of the potential application of peptides in plant systems and in pharmacology will be given.
