Learning objectives
1) Acquire basic knowledge of the specific language and methodology of the Bioethics discipline.
2) Understand the main paradigms of Bioethics applied to the doctor-patient relationship.
3) Comprehend the dialectical dynamics of the end-of-life bioethical debate.
4) Reflect independently on ethically sensitive issues that may arise in clinical practice.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Application for the School of Medicine and Surgery or for the School of Dentistry

Introduction to Bioethics: origins, characteristics, research methodology, fundamental paradigms of the debate.
Models of doctor-patient relationship: medical paternalism and informed consent.
The bioethical debate on futility of care.
End-of-Life Care and Palliative care: history and development.
Withholding or Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Treatments (WLST).
The bioethical debate on Medically Assisted Death (euthanasia and assisted suicide).
Advance Directives and Advance Care Planning.

Adherence to the following points:
Basic knowledge of the specific language and method of medical ethics and bioethics.
Knowledge of the main perspectives that animate the debate on the historical evolution of medical ethics.
Understanding of the content and dialectical dynamics of the ethical debate in the context of end-of-life.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
