Learning outcomes

A Medieval Graphic Novel: Text and Illuminations in Cgm 51 of Gottfried's Tristan

The thirteenth century represents the emergence of new narrative genres and of new kinds of illuminated books in western Europe. The course will discuss the relationships between written text and illustrations in Cgm 51 of Gottfried's of Strasbourg Tristan.

It will be introduced by preliminarily overviewing some interdisciplinary issues of Germanic Philology, concerning both historical linguistics and the science of book

1. a short overview of history and common features of the so-called Germanic languages; 2. the growth of literacy and written traditions in the Germanic-speaking countries, from the early Middle Ages to the modern epoch; 3. the interplay between literary genres and the audience; 4. an outline of medieval text publishing (touching the topics of textual criticism, paleography, codicology, book-production and library history)

Therefore the course will be divided into two parts.

First part (= 5 weeks, = 20 hours)

Introduction to Germanic Philology, Historical Linguistics (Germanic isoglosses), vernacular written Traditions in the German-speaking countries and literary genres, introduction to the history of textual criticism; introduction to Paleography, Codicology and Library History; introduction to the Digital Editing and its applications to medieval manuscript corpora

A guided visit to the Biblioteca Civica is scheduled.


Second part (= 4 weeks, = 16 hours)

Stage e tirocini

Nel piano didattico della laurea triennale in Lingue e culture per l’editoria (L11 ED) è previsto un tirocinio/stage obbligatorio (CFU 6).

Le attività di stage sono finalizzate a far acquisire allo studente una conoscenza diretta in settori di particolare interesse per l’inserimento nel mondo del lavoro e per l’acquisizione di abilità professionali specifiche.
Le attività di stage sono svolte sotto la diretta responsabilità di un singolo docente presso studi professionali, enti della pubblica amministrazione, aziende accreditate dall’Ateneo veronese.
I crediti maturati in seguito ad attività di stage saranno attribuiti secondo quanto disposto nel dettaglio dal “Regolamento d’Ateneo per il riconoscimento dei crediti maturati negli stage universitari” vigente.
