Knowledge and understanding of the principles concerning the listening attitude
Knowledge and understanding of the empathic relationship management
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
Ability to develop a collaborative and constructive relationship both with the user and the other professional roles involved in the helping processes. Specific learning outcomes
The teaching aims to transfer basic knowledge relating to the care process in the social pedagogy with the purpose of understanding the needs of the beneficiaries of the services. Particular attention will be given to the bearers of the new frailties of the current social context. The knowledge is linked to the skills of non-judgmental listening, to narrative competence as transformation of situations of empasse, to the holistic and geopolitical vision of situations of fragility and to the identification of areas of empowerment related to both the individual and his family group and / or the group to which they belong (linguistic, religious, cultural). Secondly, the teaching offers basic knowledge of the main narrative tools aimed at identifying, understanding, evaluating and accompanying the beneficiaries of the services in a participatory form, seeking ways of working in a small group according to the practices of popular pedagogies. To identify potential and resources in those who access the social service, in their life environment, in their history in order to activate ways of project creation with users, with other services and supporting networks in the territory.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Knowledge acquired on the areas of helping relationships.
Program
Caring for the other implies, on an existential, social and educational work level, also caring for oneself. Caring work, the 'care' (expression of what we care about) is an act that touches the emotional, personal and professional spheres. The lecture will attempt to answer the following question: what posture can social workers embody in their care work?
We will reflect on concrete situations that cross the following themes
- maternity cultures and child protection;
- ageing of the population and the care of narratives
- third spaces as vital places of mediation and care
- expert users' and the relationship with social, educational, health services.
The 'orientation' tool will be tested as a map for caring for oneself and for the other.

Bibliography
Didactic methods
Teaching takes place in an active form, theoretical content is addressed through the analysis of concrete situations.
We will be confronted with a cultural mediator and an 'expert user'.
During the teaching we will experience 'orientation', a narrative tool for caring for oneself and the other person.
Learning assessment procedures
The examination will take place in two stages:
1 - WRITTEN: in small groups of 2/3 students - present a "case study" (on an outline provided by the lecturer) related to a topic covered during the lectures (migrant families, child protection, mental health, elderly, disability, empowerment of fragile subjects, ...). This will be followed by a presentation and group discussion. The theoretical parts of the lectures are to be integrated in the case study.
2 - ORAL: The study texts will be discussed.
ERASMUS STUDENTS should meet the lecturer BEFORE the beginning of the lecture to discuss attendance and preparation for the exam.
