Learning outcomes

Conoscere le caratteristiche della ricerca qualitativa in ambito educativo e lo stato attuale del dibattito sulla ricerca empirica in educazione. Distinguere le potenzialità e i limiti dei principali metodi utilizzati in questo campo. Riconoscere e affrontare le questioni connesse con la validità di una ricerca qualitativa in un contesto educativo. Saper leggere un rapporto di ricerca sapendone identificare la struttura, le logiche di fondo e le potenzialità di applicazione dei risultati in un contesto educativo.

Program

The course deals with the following contents:
- Qualitative research and its epistemological frameworks.
- The research design, its components, and the construction or a research process.
- The main qualitative research methods in education, their potential and limits.
- The interview as a possible investigative tool: assumptions, technique, possible uses in the field of education.

The programme will include a handbook on qualitative research in educational settings and a book on mosaic approach. In addition, three articles will be available in the moodle platform. The two books and the three articles are required for the final examination.

Examination Methods

The students can chose between two different types of exam:

1) Written test with multiple choice and open-ended questions (the evaluation is based on content knowledge and understanding)
2) Construction of a research design (the evaluation is based on practical skills in applying content knowledge and understanding)
