Learning outcomes

Textuality as a place of knowledge and verification of literary specificity, in its formal, thematical, historical, symbolic connections, in the background of the Italian and Western civilization.

Program

Prerequisites: knowledge of literary tradition; ability to orientation and historical contextualization.

Course contents:
Part 1. (prof. Giuseppe Chiecchi, 36 hours): The gardens, the characters’ letters, and other arte narrative aspects di Giovanni Boccaccio

Textbooks: part one

- Giovanni Boccaccio, Opere minori (Filocolo, Comedia delle ninfe fiorentine, Elegia di madonna Fiammetta, Ninfale fiesolano); Decameron.

-Notes of the lessons.

Of the minor works of Boccaccio include the following editions: Ninfale fiesolano, a c. D. Piccini, Milano, BUR, 2013; Elegia di madonna Fiammetta, a c. F. Erbani, Milano, Garzanti, 2007. For the Decameron is fine any of the modern annotated editions. For Filocolo and Comedia delle ninfe fiorentine will be provided copies of parts of the text considered during
For a general shot: Luigi Surdich, Boccaccio, Bologna, Il Mulino, 2008; inoltre: Giuseppe Chiecchi, Dante, Boccaccio, l’origine, Firenze, Olschki, 2013 (capp. IV-VI) e Nell’arte narrativa di Boccaccio (in corso di stampa). Saranno utilizzati come riferimento alcuni testi critici da considerarsi ‘storici’, tra cui: Vittore Branca, Boccaccio medievale; Giovanni Getto, Vita di forme e forme di vita nel ‘Decameron’; Francesco Bruni, Boccaccio. L’invenzione della letteratura mezzana, ecc.

Other bibliographic indications will be provided during lectures.
