Learning outcomes
Profound examination and critical reflection on the relevant topics of aesthetics.
Program
Contents:
The first part of the course deals with different relationships between mimesis and ratio focalizing on some of the fundamental passages in history (Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Rationalism, Empirism, Baumgarten). This will be followed by an analytical lecture of Kant’s Critique of Judgement, in order to reflect on the basic topics of Kant’s aesthetics such as Beauty, Sublime and Genius. The course will finish with a brief examination of the principal conceptions of post-Kantian aesthetics, also trying to reflect on the links between aesthetics and ethics. The focus in this part will be set on the aesthetics of Hegel in relation with the Oldest Programme for a System of German Idealism and some of the Romantic figures such as Hölderlin, Novalis and Schlegel.
Examination Methods
The exam consist in an oral discussion with the teacher.
