Learning objectives

Aim of the course of General surgery is conveying to the students the competencies to: Recognize in the surgical patient signs, symptoms , principal physiological alterations and be consequently able to speculate differential diagnoses related to: gastro-duodenal diseases, hepato-biliary- pancreatic diseases, spleen diseases, small and gross bowel diseases ,obstruction and peritonitis; abdominal, inguinal and crural hernia, rectal and anal diseases, breast cancer, diseases of the arteries and veins. Analyze and resolve clinical problems concerning surgical diseases. Evaluate cost/effective of strategies related to the diagnosis and the treatment of the above mentioned diseases. Practical Teching Surgery Module The module allows the student, through the attendance in small groups in the surgical departments, to know how to perform a surgical visit, to be able to recognize symptoms, signs and the main functional alterations, to analyze and resolve clinical problems, with reference to major surgical diseases of the surgical program, and to know how to set appropriate surgical therapy. More specifically, the student will be able to do made wound dressing (clean and septic wounds); to perform the most common wound sutures, to remove stitches; to remove drains. To participate to the activities in operating theater; to perform rectal exploration; place a peripheral venous line, to do blood samples and ev infusions. Urology Module The aim of the course of Urology is to teach to the students the competencies to: - recognized signs, symptoms, the principal functional alterations of male genitor-urinary tract and female urinary tract and the principal differential diagnoses related to the main urological dysfunction and diseases: benign and malignant diseases of kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, testis, urinary stones, urinary incontinence, urinary trauma, erectile dysfunction, infertility. - Analyze and resolve clinical problems concerning the above mentioned diseases.
