Laurea in Matematica applicata - Enrollment from 2025/2026

Title required for matriculation

Five-year secondary school diploma, or other foreign qualification recognized as equivalent.

What are basic knowledge

To enroll in a degree program, it is important to possess some basic knowledge. The purpose of knowledge verification is to check that there are no significant deficiencies in particular disciplines. The verification may be concurrent with the admission test (for courses with programmed access) or in different ways, scheduled during the first year.

In case the verification reveals gaps in one or more subjects, it is still possible to matriculate, but it is necessary to carry out some additional activities, called Additional Formative Obligations (OFA), to be passed within the first academic year, otherwise it will not be possible to enroll in the second year.

To help the student in the recovery of OFAs, each course of study offers specific educational activities.

Basic subject requirements

Adequate mathematical and scientific knowledge and skills typical of the education provided by the upper secondary school are required:

  • Sets and functions, numerical and literal calculus, methods of solving equations and inequalities (and systems of equations and inequalities) of the first and second degrees.
  • Geometric properties of major plane and solid figures and their elementary properties.
  • Representation in the Cartesian plane of geometric elements.
  • Basics of trigonometry.
  • Functions, graphs, relationships.
  • Power, root, absolute value functions.
  • Exponential and logarithm and their graphs.
  • Trigonometric functions and their graphs.
  • Solving simple equations and inequalities constructed with these functions.
  • Represent data, relationships and functions with formulas, tables, bar charts and other graphical modes.
  • Logical deductions of moderate complexity and logical implications between elementary statements.

Methods and dates of verification

The initial preparation test is passed if a minimum score of at least 12 points is obtained, given by the sum of the scores obtained in the “Mathematics” and “Logic” questions of the TOLC-I. Alternatively, passing the final exam of the Zero Course in Mathematics taken by the students who participated in it is considered valid. For further information regarding the Zero Course in Mathematics, please contact Prof. Paolo Dai Pra at the following email address paolo.daipra@univr.it, no later than June 1, 2024.

In case of failure to pass the above tests, an additional educational obligation (OFA) in Mathematics is assigned, to be fulfilled within the first year. In this regard, remedial courses organized by the Area of Science and Engineering with related final test are provided.

For more information regarding additional educational obligations (OFAs), please read carefully the dedicated page.
