Aims of this course are focalized on a specific topic: the questionnaire in health care research and practice. The course will provide methodological and practical issues that should allow the student to make theoretical and operational decision related to the adoption or a construction of questionnaire in the health care field.

Programming and analysis of research in the health field • The objects of the observational research (outcome, occurrence parameter, determinant) • Measure of disease in the human collective (incidence, cumulative incidence, prevalence) • Measurement of the association (attributable risk, relative risk, Odds Ratio) • Confounding, effect modifiers and Bias • Classification and design of health studies (cross sectional studies, cohort studies, case-control studies, clinical trial) • Quantitative research in Health care • Diagnostic and screening tests: sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value of a screening test • Ethical principles for research involving humans • Guidelines for a good practice in research

The course includes the following subjects: - General aspects on the questionnaire, typical research designs requiring questionnaires, types of administration, types of adaptation per subject, languages, culture and objectives. - Currently used standardized questionnaires: outcome questionnaires and patient-satisfaction questionnaires; - Questionnaire construction; endpoints and theoretical framework; questionnaire structure; questioning; measurement issues (individual questions and measurement scales); - Questionnaire and statistics; questionnaire validation and data processing; Online questionnaires: the course foresees a practical exercise consisting of the construction of a questionnaire through a dedicated software.

The final evaluation of the profit will be made through a written test with exercises; if this test is passed, then an oral interview will be carried out.
