Learning objectives

The clinical simulation has the purpose to let the students learn some organizational, technical-practical and relational skills in safe setting. Moreover clinical simulation is aiming at develop in the student the problem solving ability using case method and role-playing . Using clinical simulation may reduce the emotional impact in dealing with patents’ real situation experienced by the nursing students in clinical setting. Also, the clinical simulation offers to the students the opportunity to train and apply theoretical principles to clinical practice. The clinical simulation activity happens in equipped settings, where a tutor or an expert nurse guides a small group of students.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Attendance at third year lessons. Carrying out cognitive exercises with the production of a paper in preparation for the laboratories.

Program

During the laboratory the student will have the opportunity to pursue the following objectives:
- Apply the principles and techniques of the healthcare relationship to practice situations
- Choose which strategies/techniques to use to manage the relational situation
- Analyze the relational principles underlying the representations
- Share the strategies used and prefigure others
- Receive feedback from the observers, from the patient-actor/actress and from the workshop leader.

Didactic methods

Each edition will involve 10 students, lasting 2 hours, 2 distinct scenarios will be staged (one in which the management of a situation with medium-high emotionality expressed by the patient or a family member is required and one in which the situation requires to manage a patient who experiences negative emotions and experiences of illness; for each scenario, 2 students will play the role of nurses. After the game, a debriefing follows to re-elaborate what happened on stage.
