Learning outcomes
The course provide to the student the knowledges ad clinical "food for thought" that are the background of an high quality care for the gynecological pathology during the different age of the woman life: childhood and puberty, reproductive age and menopausa.
KNOWLEDGES:
- anatomy of female reproductive tract
- gynecological endocrinology ( endocrine mechanisms regulating the sexual development, the reproductive age and the menopause)
- the contraception and the 194 Law (barrier and hormonal methods, termination of pregnancy)
- sexually transmitted disease and prevention strategies
- the female genital malignancy screening
- malignancy of the reproductive female tract (diagnostic approach and treatment of cervix, endometrium and ovarian cancer)
- the menopause (endocrinology, sociomediacal issues and HRT)
- obstetric pathologies and healthcare aspects (main pregnancy complications, the miscarriage and the ectopic pregnancy, obstetric emergencies
SKILLS
- to gain insight and technical and no technical skills for the healthcare approach to woman during the different phases of her life (regard, empathetic communication, listening, acceptance, individualization of care, support, detection of personalized paths)
- to know the female genital tract fundamental anatomical and functional aspects to understand the female physiology and pathology in the lifetime
- to know the problem of contraception and the main methods and mechanisms of action of emergency, barrier and hormonal contraception, included the limitations of each method and the essential time of the counseling; to go in depth with the most important aspects of 194 Law for an informed and woman centered care
- to know and learn to promote female genital malignancy screening
- to gain knowledges about the principal genital female malignancy, the diagnostic and therapeutic iter and the critical care issues
- to learn about main problems linked to the menopause and the most frequent health need
- to know the main pregnancy complication and to gain technical and no technical skills to act durin obstetric emergencies from a team work point of view and in order to achieve a multidisciplinary approach

OUTLINE
- anatomy and physiology of the female genital tract
- endocrinology of the different age of woman life: childood and puberty, reproductive age ant menopause
- contraception and 194 Law
- the sexual transmitted diseases: prevention and counseling
- screening for female reproductive tract malignancy
- cervix, endometrium and ovarian cancer: diagnostic and therapeutic pathways, critical helthcare issues
- the menopause and the health care need of the woman: social, medical and psycological issues
- the most frequent pregnancy complications: prevention, diagnosis and therapies
- obstetric emergencies, the team work and the multidisciplinary approach
TEACHING METHODS
Classroom meetings will provide lectures (with slides), group discussion and hand on training/simulations.
Examination method
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE EXAM
The goal of the examination is to verify achievement level of the previously indicated training objectives.
The exam will be a written test with some open questions an some close questions from the study textbooks. The open questions are always present and the student is expected to apply to a real clinical case concepts and knowledges gain from lectures, simulation and study of the textbooks. The close questions are not constant. During lessons will be presented examples of the written tests. After recieving the result of the written test, it is possible to arrange an interview with the teacher (optional) wich will be based at least on one texbook studied.
