Learning objectives

Acquire language skills that are needed to communicate with patients and practitioners when it’s necessary, to read and to understand the content of scientific research about professional scientific topics.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Students enrolled in the first year of the degree course.

- the construction of dialogues for the analysis of the patient's care needs
- communication techniques for effective expression and understanding
- the specialist health care glossary
- the statistical glossary
- specialist research glossary
- elements of grammar
- grammatical analysis of sentences
- logical analysis of sentences
- analysis of the unit of meaning: the paragraph
- mind maps and structure of scientific publications
- comprehension techniques, paraphrasing
- meaning-oriented reading
- Expressive and referential translation techniques
- Active listening techniques
- exercise in understanding web pages for researching articles and journals online.
