Learning outcomes

Acquisition of the general knowledge of the fundamental biological mechanisms regulating
the immune system functions. Knowledge of the immune laboratory techniques and of the
principles at their base.

Program

1- The immune system.
Anatomy, citology, biochemistry and genetics of the immune systemlymphoid organs, cells (lymphocytes, dendritic cells, macrophages, granulocytes) molecules (Immunoglobulins, T cell receptor, MHC and co-stimulatory molecules). Antigen-antibody reaction. Antigen processing and presentaiton. Cell-mediated and humoral response. Cytokines and cell cooperation. The complement system.
2. Immunological techniques.
Production and use of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies and of T cell lines and clones. Antibodies-based immunoassays (immunoprecipitation agglutination, RIA, immune-enzymatic assays, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry) or immune-cell based assays (cytotoxicity, mixed leucocyte cultures).
