SPS/08 - SOCIOLOGY OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION

II SEMESTRE dal Mar 4, 2019 al May 31, 2019.
Learning outcomes
The course aims at analysing the main theories about communication and sociology of sport. In particular, it will examine globalisation, sport events and the historical aspects of “sportivization”.
At the end of the course students will be able to know the main sociological theories and the methods of social research on sport events. They will know also the tecniques of social research in order to analyse the tv sport audience and the relations among sport, sponsor and advertisement.
Program
The first part of the course will be dedicated to the analysis of the concept of communication, with reference both to the main theories and to the changes introduced by the transition from mass media to personal media.
It will focus on the characteristics of sport events in the context of globalisation, with particular reference to football and athletics.
The second part of the course will introduce the concept of "play" and "sport" and the trend towards"sportivization".

Examination Methods
During the final exam students will answer to four open questions about the programs presented during the course. The attender students will have to pass only two partial exams during the course.
The evaluation criteria will be: the comprehension of the main theories, the mastery of the disciplinary lexicon and the description of the interrelations among different topics.
