For attending students the teaching will consist of lectures during which the topics of the course will be illustrated and some types of philological reconstruction of the texts will be illustrated. In particular, the critical editions of some Italian classics will be examined in the following order:
1. reconnaissance of the manuscript tradition;
2. analysis of the stemmatic reconstruction; reading of texts and verification of coats of arms;
3. observations from students.
The students will be stimulated by the teacher to intervene personally and to directly address the problems connected to the reconstruction of the stemmata codicum and the linguistic physiognomy of the texts, so as to verify the skills acquired during the lessons.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is oral and consists of two questions: 1. Discussion of a question of method of a general nature concerning the different philological approaches to the text. 2. Discussion of a particular case study concerning an author or a text dealt with in class, to be illustrated and justified by demonstrating the ability to apply the acquired knowledge. Non-attending students must also prepare the whole manual by Paolo Trovato (Everything you always wanted to know about Lachmann's method).
Evaluation criteria
