Learning objectives

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
- Critically understand the psychological perspective regarding the relationship between individual, socio-educational, emotional, and cultural factors.
- Apply the psychological perspective critically to the relationship between individual, socio-educational, emotional, and cultural factors.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
The course aims to present current conceptions of emotions and how issues and dynamics related to the world of emotions are explained today. The main purpose is to facilitate students' understanding of emotional dynamics and how people experience them and adopt strategies to manage and control them, at the individual and group level. Particular attention will be paid to emotion regulation processes and their effects on mental functioning and well-being. The course has the following specific educational objectives:
- develop the ability to recognize emotional dynamics that individuals adopt in different contexts, with particular attention to contexts where such dynamics occur at the individual, group, or organizational level;
- develop the ability to analyze the functionality and dysfunctionality of these dynamics in relation to the context in which they are implemented, especially in relation to the use of psychological processes of emotion regulation.

The topics addressed during the lessons will be: Birth and development of the Psychology of emotions The evolutionary-functionalistic perspective on emotions and the theories of basic emotions The cognitivist perspective on emotions and the theories of appraisal The communicative and socio-constructionist perspective on emotions Some recent theoretical positions and the concept of emotional networks Emotion regulation: the different theoretical positions The relationship between emotion regulation and impulsivity Types of emotion regulation Regulatory strategies, in particular reappraisal and rumination The interaction between emotion regulation, nurturing and empathy Emotion regulation and research Emotion regulation and psychopathology Emotional dynamics applied to organizations. Learning assessment procedures

Written exam of about two hours with three open questions. The exam procedure is the same for attending and non-attending students. There are no intermediate tests. Students from previous academic years who still have to take the exam can take it with the program for their course year.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The exam questions are aimed at ascertaining the knowledge of the topics reported in the texts (or parts of them) in the program and the ability to discursively organize this knowledge.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The vote is expressed in thirtieths.
