Learning outcomes

The course aims at equipping students with a set of conceptual instruments and styles of thought concerning some great ethical issues characterizing contemporary world and contemporary philosophical elaboration, underlining the possible contribution of psychoanalysis to philosophy and of philosophy to psychoanalysis.
By the end of the course, students are expected to possess sufficient autonomy in retracing the main issues of the course and master its language and main conceptual issues.

Program

The workshop will address the idea of ethics in the light of the contribution of psychoanalysis, which is in many ways questioning the philosophical tradition, or rediscovering something philosophical tradition already formulated in its own terms. We will address in particular the fundamental discovery psychoanalysis always claimed: the subject would not be “master in its own house”. What could ethics become, in the light of this hypothesis? What kind of subjectivation may we find in light of the encounter with this "impossibility" of mastery?

Students will receive frontal lessons but will also be invited to discuss and actively contribute to the collective examination of texts and the collective construction of knowledge concerning the main issues of the workshop. Meeting hours for students are scheduled during the whole academic year. Days and hours of the courses and meetings will be communicated in the teacher’s personal webpage.
