Learning outcomes

Grasping relevant concepts by Modern Moral Philosophy. At the end of the course the student will have to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and reflection on these aspects.

Program

Dialectic, nature, spirit: subject’s freedom in Hegel’s "Encyclopedia".
An interpretation and a discussion of Hegel’s "Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences in outline" (1830) from the point of view of moral philosophy will be proposed. For this purpose, the following points will be developed inter alia:

- Dialectic, systematic unity and “Science of freedom”;
- Subject and contradiction;
- Becoming unity of the subject;
- Freedom and necessity in comparison with nature and exteriority;
- Subjective spirit: soul, consciousness, spirit;
- Objective spirit: relationships between subjects within law, morality and ethical life;
- Subject and history;
- Subject and absolute spirit.

Examination Methods

For both attending and non-attending students the exam consists of an oral test concerning the program and the reading list. To pass the exam, students will have to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes: acquired knowledge, interpretation and reflection skills by the perspective of moral philosophy will be verified referring to course program and reading list.
