Learning outcomes

The course purpose is to give the students the basis notions to organize a project of urban research. The aim will be to study the area around University Campus, trough guided research on historical sources and field surveys . Softwares and technological instruments, typical of the survey on historical landscape and of analysis on historical architecture, will be used by students during practical exercises.

Program

Students intending to participate in the course are requested to send an e-mail to the teacher by march 2018, to allow a better planning of the theoretical and practical activities; specifying name, surname, course, past archeological experiences and computer knowledges. Before this workshop it may be useful to have attended a course of metodology/introduction to archeological disciplines or a course of medieval archeology.

The course will take place for the most part in the classroom, with frontal lectures and practical exercises, in small working groups also. Depending on the number of participants, it will be organized one or more excursions. Students will also be asked for a part of individual work and research on the field.

The research project will focus on identification, positioning and study of the main historical and archaeological evidences preserved near the University Campus, using the methods of landscape archeology, applied to an urban context; as well as the study techniques of historical buildings.

Examination Methods

Oral exam and illustration of the results obtained during the research.

Articles and useful texts will be indicated during the course.
