ICAR/18 - HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE
Period
Sem. 2A dal Feb 18, 2019 al Mar 30, 2019.
Learning outcomes
Introductory course: Moments of architectural history in Italy (16th-17th centuries)
Prerequisites:
A - Knowledge of the features of the History of Italian Architecture from the Roman age to the fifteenth century
Educational goals:
Understanding the value of the relationship between the requests of the client and their interpretation in the works of the protagonists of Italian architecture in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries (Bramante, Giuliano da Sangallo, Antonio da Sangallo il V.; Antonio da Sangallo il G. , Baldassarre Peruzzi, Giulio Romano, Michele Sanmicheli, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Andrea Palladio, Carlo Maderno)
Knowledge of the specific terms of the architectural vocabulary
Being able to read the architectural forms and recognize the stylistic characteristics of the individual authors
Program
The program of the course will highlight the importance of the treatises - with particular regard to the interpretations of the text of Vitruvius - in the dissemination of the architectural language developed in the main Italian centers, primarily in Rome and in the Veneto region. The importance of the relationship between architects and their clients will be highlighted, in order to highlight the relationship between the forms and the social, political, cultural and economic value entrusted to them. In order to make evident the importance of these premises, the works of the main protagonists of the architecture of the mature renaissance and of the first baroque active in papal Rome will be examined, as well as those of the artists who, having formed in the Roman sphere, exported the new architectural language in the Veneto area, starting from the third decade of the sixteenth century.
