M-FIL/06 - HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY
Sem. 2B dal Apr 8, 2019 al Jun 1, 2019.
Learning Objectives: The course aims to provide students with a knowledge of the main philosophical, political and artistic texts of the Renaissance (15th-16th centuries). At the end of the course the student shall be able to demonstrate his ability to contextualize from both an historical and critical viewpoint the authors and the topics discussed during the course.
Title and content of the course: Reality and illusion in the thought of the Renaissance
The course focuses on the relationship between reality and illusion in the Renaissance period (XV-XVI centuries), taking into consideration two fundamental angles: 1) the political one, focused around the discussion of the best form of government; 2) the artistic one, focused around the themes of mimesis, the paragone between the arts and the relationship between Love (Amore) and God. The course will therefore be divided into two parts: the first part (Prof. Napolitano) will examine "Utopia" by Thomas More, with reference to other political concepts of the time; the second part (Prof. Stavru) will examine the "Trattato della Pittura" by Leonardo da Vinci, expanding the horizon to other important artistic concepts of the Renaissance.
