Program
The general part of the course (semester 1) will be structured as follows. (1) presentation of the key elements of textual criticism, through a theoretical approach and observation of case studies. (2) Introduction of the key concepts of the historical/diachronic dimension of Romance linguistics, with a focus on the common origin of these languages – the so-called Vulgar Latin – as well as their phonetics, morphology, and vocabulary. (3) Reading and analysis of some of the most representative texts of Romance literatures during the Middle Ages. Lecture notes and texts read and commentated during the course are available in Moodle as well as the exam's bibliography.
