Learning outcomes
Acquire language skills that are needed to communicate with patients and practitioners when it’s necessary, to read and to understand the content of scientific research about professional scientific topics.
Program
This course will focus on the following issues:
1. Phonetics and Phonology of the English Language:
- Homophones and homographs, consonant cluster, IPA, pronunciation.
2. Morphology and Syntax.
3. Anatomy:
- Main principles;
- The parts of the body.
4. Medical and Paramedical Personnel and Places.
5. The Human body:
- Systems;
- Diseases;
- Symptoms.
6. Medical tests:
- Treatments;
- Therapies;
- Examinations
7. Medical research and academic articles:
- Presentations;
- Research articles;
- Abstract.
8. Medical Ethics:
- Main principles;
- Thomas Percival and the origins of medical ethics.
METHODOLOGY:
Lessons will include frontal lecturing (slides), group discussions, oral and written tests to help students reach their autonomy in speaking English. Lessons will be held in English.

Examination Methods
PREREQUISITES:
Before students take the written test, they must send the professor the answers to the questions related to each lesson (via mail). The questions will focus on the main issues of each lesson.
CHARACTERISTICS:
The objective of the examination is to check the students' level of the formative objectives.
The examination consists of a written test, which includes several open and closed questions.
