Learning objectives

To illustrate the role of statistics-applied informatics in health facilities. How it can be employed for the management of public healthcare, health surveillance, epidemiological evaluation

Prerequisites and basic notions

Use of a Personal Computer

Program

Current health informative flows, their IT management and data use criteria on the management, clinical and epidemiological level.
The dataset (cases per variables) and criteria for processing, representing and reporting health data. Synthetic representations of data: frequency distributions, graphs, indices of centrality and variability. PC tutorials using Microsoft Excel.
Integrated use of health informative flows and files. Examples of literature and applications in the Provincial Health Care Service of Trento.
Calculation of epidemiological indicators (odds and rates) from a real database (demo.istat.it).

Frontal lessons with practical exercises on the PC

Learning assessment procedures

The course exam consists in the resolution of two practical exercises to the PC with the use of Microsoft Excel.
