Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to investigate the complex world of the visual and performing arts. The view is not artistic but only economic. In this context, it is necessary to analyze the crucial economic principles and the most important mechanisms relating the artistic-cultural sector.

Program

Introduction to key economic elements.
Analysis of preferences and decisions.
The problem to make a choice.
The important role of utility.
Supply and demand.
Market price and market equilibrium.
The main agents.
The principal effects (spillover effect, Duesenberry effect, Veblen effect …).
The querelle about investment.
The market of reproducible art (cinema, television, publishing trade, recording, photography)
Private and public strategies: new and old patronage, advertising, sponsoring, specific intervention policies.
