Learning outcomes
Comparative Literature concerns great literary themes of the Western world, genres, periods and movements in a transnational perspective, and guides the students to understand and study them,
Program
"NOVEL-GRAPHIC NOVEL- FILM: the case of the detective tale." This course will analyze a few masterpieces of the detective novel genre (works by Poe, Doyle, Simenon, Chandler) and their transformations into graphic novels and films. The course will teach the way to interpret a work into its different artistic renditions.
The program will focus on:
a text on the history of the detective novel genre
a few stories and novel by Poe, Doyle, Simenon, and Chandler.
an essay dealing with the transition from novel to graphic novel.
an essay dealing with the transition from novel to film.
Teaching Methodology:
Attending students: lectures devoted to the transmission of basic notions on the subject, encouraging questions and interaction.
Non-attending students: additional readings.
