Learning outcomes
The course follows the stages of British colonization and de-colonization through the analysis of significant literary works issued in the Victorian, Modern and Post-modern ages
Program
Colonization and reverse colonization in Imperial and post-Imperial British literature.
The course is focused on the thematic and ideological analysis of literary texts centred on the relationship between the East and the West and on the definition of the colonial world as “Otherness”. Students will be presented with the changing perceptions of British national identity in relation to the making and loss of colonial Empire and to the rise of a multiethnic society from the second world war onwards.
