Learning outcomes

The course aims at improving the fundamental knowledge of Russian cultural history acquired by students during the first year.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
1) know the main events of Russian history and to understand the essential elements of modern Russian culture, focusing on 20th century;
2) apply the acquired knowledge in analysing the texts studied during the course, using the given references;
3) develop a personal opinion concerning the main topics covered in the course and to express them in a coherent and proper form.

During the course indications about further critical material to be consulted will be provided.

Teaching methods: frontal classes. The classes will include reading and analysis of excerpts in Russian from the literary works in the programme.

Examination Methods

Final oral exam.

The evaluation will consider the following aspects:
- the possession of the historical, cultural and literary notions dealt with during the course
- the ability to orient oneself in the different areas of Russian History and Literature
- the ability to make a critical analysis of the literary works with particular attention to the quality of personal rework
- the autonomy in organizing the speech and a proper use of the language.
