Learning outcomes

Thinking allows people to act, to overcome difficulties and problems. Acting correctly, overcoming diffuclties and problems in a given context means thinking in a correct way in that context. To do this it is useful to know how thinking works. Thus the teaching aims to present an up-to-date dissertation of the fields of investigation of the psychology of thinking, problem solving and meta-cognition, to analyze the functioning of thought in conditions of uncertainty / difficulty, in everyday life and in the use of professional skills and to outline and to devise interventions in detail in the conditions of cognitive, linguistic and relational distress, due to the alteration of the awarness by an individual of his own abilities and mental processes.

Program

The teaching establishes a detailed and acute diseertation of the following topics:
- ways of thinking,focusing on the distinction between Type 1 and Type 2 processes;
- the evaluation of the information and the highlighting of the various inconsistencies of this type of process;
- verification of arguments, focusing in particular on deductive thought and the respective biases;
- the forecast of the events and the distortions connected to it;
- decision making;
- problem solving;
- creative thinking distinguishing between convergent and divergent thinking;
- to imagine the possible and the impossible;
- self-regulation of thought

Examination Methods

The exam, without any distinctions between attending and non-attending students, will consist of a written test with thirty multiple choice questions with three alternative answers, of which only one is correct. At the end of the final judgment expressed in thirtieths, each correct answer corresponds to a point; while the wrong answers or not given have a value of zero points.
N.B. Following the health emergency due to Covid-19, the usual examination procedures are changed for the 2020 summer session, in accordance with the indications of the University. Specifically: "the exam will be held orally using Zoom"
