SPS/08 - SOCIOLOGY OF CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION

Learning outcomes

The course wants to initiate students at a sociological reflection towards the concept of primary socialization and identity, reaching the goal to improve their work like educational professionist. Through the study of the main theories of socialization, it wants to give the basic instruments to recognize processes; to identify agencies (in particular family) and techniques of socialization and to a deeper analysis of the relationship among socialization, identity and difference.

Program

On the first part, the course will focus on socialization and identity construction through the study of different theoretical Approaches and Authors (like Piaget, Durkheim, Parsons, Kardiner, Bourdieu).

In the second part, the course will underline the various actors and agencies involved in socialization, like school and informal groups, with special attention on family.

The third part will inquire into the relationship between identity and difference personal and social identity, through E. Goffman’s concept of “stigma”.
