Learning outcomes

The course deals with the issue of the person and personalist ethics on the basis of Dietrich von Hildebrand's moral philosophy and phenomenology of love.

Program

Title: Dietrich von Hildebrand's personalist Ethics and Philosophy of Love.

Contents:
- The philosophical notion of person between metaphysics and phenomenology.
- Hildebrand in the history of Thought: the realist phenomenology.
- Hildebrand's philosophy of relationship and its relevance for philosophical anthropology.
- Ethics of values.
- The interpersonal relationships.
- Love as the supreme kind of interpersonal relationhip.
- The categories of love.
- Love and ethics.

Examination Methods

The evaluation will be based on an oral examination in which the student is tested on his capacity of critical investigation into an argument chosen by him, and his knowledge of the other topics dealed in the course.
Students attending the lectures can otherwise choose to write a paper of ca 6000 words. The argument must be agreed with the lecturer. The deadline is the following:
- the last lecture of the course: in order to apply for the exam in January 24th.
- 24th January 2011: for the students who apply for the exam in February 14th.
