Learning outcomes
This course aims at favouring a philological and interpretative approach to the texts of the ancient Greek literature, by means of the study of their linguistic and stylistic features in a strict connection with the other literary genres, and of their manuscript and printed transmission. The knowledge of the Ancient Greek is required. On successful completion of the module, students will be able to re-elaborate critically the acquired knowledge, and to discuss topics employing appropriate methodology.
Program
Critical edition, interpretation, commentary: some case studies from Euripides’ Electra.
The course concentrates on the various steps in the textual and interpretative work about 5th century BCE plays, with special reference to Euripides’ Electra and other tragedies.

Examination Methods
Oral exam.
The exam will consist in an oral discussion of the topics dealt with during each module. The acquired abilities will be evaluated in terms of:
1) knowledge of the literary history and of the primary texts within their historical and cultural contexts;
2) textual comprehension and translation into Italian of the primary texts;
3) ability to use critical approaches appropriate to textual and contextual analysis, with special attention to linguistic and stylistic features.
