M-FIL/06 - HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY

Period

Sem. IIB dal Apr 23, 2018 al Jun 9, 2018.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to promote a fruitful dialogue with the classics of German philosophy, by focusing on a topic of great interest and actuality. We will focus on the idea of nation which arose between the 18th and 19th century and its rapid evolving toward aggressive forms of nationalism. The authors of reference are basically three: we will start from Herder then move on to Kant and later we will analyze Fichte’s "Addresses to the German Nation”.
The ability to read and understand the texts will be particularly attentive and tested during the exam; students will be brought to dialogue with some of the protagonists of philosophical thinking, refining terminology and exercising, at the same time, the ability to link the knowledge acquired through personal experience.

Program

The study tool will consist by the volume on the nation's idea, being printed at the publishing house Aracne in Rome. With the support of this text will be presented and commented on significant pieces drawn from the works of Kant and Herder. An overall reading of the "Addresses to the German Nation” by Fichte will be made.
