Learning outcomes

Of Cesare Pavese, three different aspects will be studied.
The first, the poet's role in breaking with tradition, through the collection «Lavorare stanca» (1936-1943).
The second, intense relationship with Einaudi Publishing House that saw him as editor, editorial director, necklace director, voice in the choir of «Wednesday», publisher of himself, as well as author and translator and curator in his own also in the history of Italian publishing.
The third, narrator experience in the 1930s and 1940s with the publication of «Prima che il gallo canti» («Il carcere», 1938-1939 and «La casa in collina», 1947-1948), attempted reconciliation between myth and history.

Attending students, in addition to the lessons learned, are required to study the following works:

Gian Carlo Ferretti, «L’editore Cesare Pavese», Torino, Einaudi, 2017;

Gian Carlo Ferretti, «I fondamenti», in Gian Carlo Ferretti, «Storia dell’editoria letteraria in Italia. 1945-2003», Torino, Einaudi, 2004, pp. 1-59;

Cesare Pavese, «Lavorare stanca», in Cesare Pavese, «Poesie», a cura di Mariarosa Masoero, introduzione di Marziano Guglielminetti, Torino, Einaudi, 1998 (si raccomanda anche lo studio dell’introduzione e della nota ai testi);

Cesare Pavese, «Prima che il gallo canti», Torino, Einaudi, 2003;

Anco Marzio Mutterle, «I fioretti del diavolo. Nuovi studi su Cesare Pavese», Alessandria, Edizioni dell'Orso, 2013, pp. 1-47 and pp. 81-95.

Other bibliographic references will be given during lessons and put on the e-learning platform. Non-attending students are requested to contact the teacher for the additional bibliography.
