Academic calendar

The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes

Give basic info on the technological train in wine making facilities and its single unit operations as well as the definition and treatment of winery waste and wastewater

Program

Main topics of the course are the following:
- basics of mass and energy balances and momentum
- grapes arriving (weighing, sampling, loading, transfer)
- destemminng and crushing
- pumping and head loss
- fermentation
- mixing
- solid / liquid separation by sedimentation, flotation and centrifguges
- solid/liquid separation by menas of membranes, vacuum drum filters
- heat management and freezing systems (heat exchangers)
- bottling
For the waste and winery treatment module

Normative framework for waste and wastewater management in cellars Italy.
Type and characteristics of wastes and wastewaters. Specific production of pollutants.
Analysis of the different process options for waste and wastewater biological treatment.
Chemical-physical and biological treatment of wastewaters: main characteristics and operational conditions of different chemico-physical and biological operations for wastewater treatment. Definition of anaerobic processes, waste activated sludge (aerobic) processes. Biological nitrogen removal, nitrification and denitrification. Biological phosphorous removal. Combined biological N & P removal. Chemical P removal.
Cellar solid waste
Quantity and characteristics of organic and inorganic waste, their catalogue definition and disposal.

Examination Methods

The final examination consists of a written test on definitions and numerical exercises on the main operational units and an oral examination

News for students

Attendance modes and venues

As stated in the Didactic Regulations, attendance is compulsory for practical and laboratory exercises (see courses with laboratory in the annex), unless otherwise stipulated by the teaching board.

Attendance at lectures is strongly recommended.

Part-time enrolment is permitted. To find out more, please consult the Part-time enrolment possibilities page.

The course's teaching activities take place in Villa Lebrecht and Villa Eugenia, located in the San Floriano di Valpolicella campus, and may also take place in the other spaces of the Science and Engineering area, which is composed of the buildings of Ca‘ Vignal 1, Ca’ Vignal 2, Ca' Vignal 3 and Piramide, located in the Borgo Roma campus,
Lectures are held in the classrooms of Villa Lebrecht while practical exercises are carried out in the teaching laboratories dedicated to the various activities.
