Learning outcomes
The placement during the training course is the privileged and irreplaceable way to learn the professional role through active experimentation. The quality of the internship depends on the continuous interaction of the practical experience with theoretical reflection. Practical activity aims to: promote and integrate theoretical and practical knowledge; develop technical, educational and relational skills; promote direct knowledge of experiential areas, as well as critical reflection on the operational modalities observed.
Program
The internship in the training of the nurse is an irreplaceable way of learning the professional role, through practical experimentation and the integration of theoretical knowledge with concrete experience. It allows the student to gradually develop a professional identity, to put theoretical principles and disciplinary knowledge into practice in different situations, to recover the principles adopted from practice, to acquire the ability to make decisions in a real context. The internship includes various training activities: direct experience in the services, tutorial activities for preparation and re-elaboration of the experience (briefing and debriefing), exercises and simulations in the laboratory that usually precede the direct experience in the services in order to guarantee safety for patients and students, guided study, self-study, elaboration of plans, projects and reports.
During the three-year period, the student experiences various internship experiences accompanied and supervised by tutors and experienced professionals, aimed at acquiring skills defined by the professional profile of the nurse and specific to nursing. On average, 7-8 experiences are offered over the course of the three-year period (two in the 1st year; two or three in the 2nd year; three in the 3rd year) in hospital-accredited healthcare services and structures, in areas of general and specialist medicine and surgery , intensive and post-acute care, community medicine, territorial and home services, services for rehabilitation care; each experience has a variable duration from 5 to 8 weeks, essential to allow the student to develop the expected skills and competences and experiment gradually. The internship experience is achieved through the gradual direct experimentation of clinical assistance activities, direct communication with the patient, discussion with experts, professionals, tutors and other students; it is also divided into moments of deciphering and reworking the situations encountered and what was planned and implemented. All this contributes to clinical learning. Internship experiences are assessed for ongoing training purposes and at the end of each year of the course through an overall assessment of the student's and collegiate path.
