Learning outcomes
Teaching contributes to the achievement of the following learning outcomes:
- collect data accurately on the main health problems of patients;
- analyze and interpret the data collected through the assessment, plan the interventions and evaluate the outcomes;
-identify the needs of nursing care of the person and his reactions related to the disease, the treatments in place, institutionalization, changes in activities of daily life, the quality of life perceived;
-use the theoretical principles of caring and the ethical principles that inspire and guide the practice of care.
-demonstrate the ability to cultivate doubts and tolerate the uncertainties deriving from study and practical activity;
-develop the ability to ask questions about the exercise of their activity, relevant in time, place and interlocutors.
Program
Main objectives and helpful interventions in the pre-surgery phase:
- to give pre-operative informations to get the surgical agreement from the patient;
- to evaluate the type of surgery and the risk of surgical site infection;
- to recognize basic principles of drug therapy and phytotherapy in the perioperative period;
- surgical preparation: preoperative showering and hair removal, oral hygiene, nasal decontamination, smoking suspension, bowel preparation, food recommendations;
- to prevent thromboembolic complications;
- antibiotic prophylaxis;
- to consider the patient's space and intimacy
Main objectives and helpful interventions in the post-operative period:
- to accept the operated person and to prepare the unity of life;
- vigilance and post-operative monitoring;
- early postoperative mobilization;
- to manage wound dressing and drainage's management in the hospital and at home;
- basic concepts on the resumption of peristalsis and food habits.

Examination Methods
Writting Test with multiple choice questions and closed answer for knowledge / application objectives, open ended-questions with a short answer about clinical contents are required for analytical objectives, autonomy of judgment and decision making. The questions are also proposed as a summary of clinical cases.
