Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce students to the main Scientific English lexicon developing, at the same time, the four abilities (speaking, listening, reading, writing) of the English language with particular focus on the reading ability.

1. The midwife: the profession, the midwife’s job and instruments
2. The doctor: the General Practitioner, the doctor’s job, specialists, the doctor’s tools
3. The hospital: hospital divisions, the hospital staff, the hospital room, types of patients
4. The human body: external body parts, common disorders related to some external parts, some idioms related to the parts of the body
5. Body systems: a. The skeletal system, pathologies of the skeletal system
b. The muscular system, pathologies of the muscular system
c. The nervous system, pathologies of the nervous system
d. The cardiovascular system, pathologies of the cardiovascular system
6. Blood, the female reproductive system, the male reproductive system, oncology, chickenpox, miscarriage
GRAMMAR: the infinitive, personal pronouns subject, to be, definite and indefinite articles, the plural, adjectives, demonstrative adjectives, numbers, passive forms, possessive pronouns, prepositions of place and time, the possessive case, the imperative
